Trauma Treatment at Foundations Wellness Center

Once you identify the real root cause for addictive behaviors, the path toward recovery opens wide

Letting go of a painful past isn’t easy. Many people remain stuck there… and not because it’s beneficial. There is comfort in repeating negative patterns of behavior, because it’s what we are familiar with. Together, we pinpoint the sources of pain so you can finally move forward.

What is Trauma Treatment?

Many individuals who struggle with substance abuse can attribute their addiction to traumatic experiences from their past. Traumatic events can include military combat, physical or sexual assault, serious accidents, or any other upsetting event either witnessed or experienced.

In some cases, individuals develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a mental health disorder which is commonly linked to substance addiction.

It is also important to note that each individual’s trauma is unique, and painful experiences are wide-ranging. Trauma can refer to many different types of experiences. It doesn’t have to be a violent situation in the past; it may stem from something as simple as middle-child syndrome or perceived favoritism a parent shows toward another sibling.

Whatever the source of the trauma may be, it can trigger a mental health disorder that is very difficult to overcome. Some individuals resort to substance abuse as a coping mechanism (self-medication).

Fortunately, both the mental health disorder and the addiction are treatable with trauma treatment at Foundations Wellness Center. Long term recovery can be achieved by not only addressing the symptoms of addiction, but also the painful experiences that have fueled them over time. It is crucial to address the source of trauma in order to prevent further psychological and physical damage.

Trauma treatment at Foundations Wellness Center involves our counselors working together with each client to discover and address the source of their feelings, starting with a thorough evaluation. Addiction recovery is made much easier if those painful memories are able to be addressed. This allows clients to acknowledge the root of their feelings and to receive help on coping with them in a healthy way, without resorting to dangerous substances.

How Trauma Treatment Works

Foundations Wellness Center’s customized program includes trauma treatment. Our modalities are designed to help our patients overcome the traumatic events of the past, enabling them to benefit more from our addiction treatment program as a whole.

During their participation. patients take part in confidential, individual therapy sessions with our clinical team, in a safe and controlled environment. The goal is to help the patient address the symptoms of trauma and to live a life free of its devastating effects.

Foundations Wellness Center uses a combination of therapies for effective trauma resolution. For example, we offer brain mapping to identify areas impacted by trauma and neurofeedback to retrain the brain, returning it to healthier functioning. For those who’ve experience sexual trauma or abuse in the past, we work closely with Mindi Fetterman, founder and visionary leader at the Inner Truth Project. This gives clients even more support in their journey to healing.

The ultimate goal of trauma treatment is to make clients feel that past experiences can longer hurt them in the present. It is important to bear in mind that trauma treatment is a not a one-time fix. However, the program offers clients the skills they need to cope with their pain in a non-destructive way, free from addiction. Working through traumatic events of the past is a vital part of the healing process.
