What is Outpatient Treatment?

Foundations Wellness Center’s outpatient addiction treatment serves as a transition program for clients who have completed the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and/or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Offering one to three hours of clinical treatment a week, the outpatient addiction program is the final phase of treatment. Clients will be able to resume their daily lives while participating in the program.

Within the outpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment program, we ensure that clients are following up with all aftercare recommendations. The healthy skills they have developed from previous treatment levels will greatly aid them in regaining control of their lives.

The goal of outpatient treatment is to help clients achieve autonomy and to reintegrate back into the community. We also aim to minimize the chance of relapse by offering relapse prevention counseling as well as clinical and/or psychiatric treatment.

As patients progress throughout the outpatient program, we encourage them to become active members in our alumni program, ensuring ongoing support for long term sobriety.

Outpatient addiction treatment offers the most freedom of all levels of care offered at Foundations Wellness Center. Clients are able to maintain full lives outside of their outpatient program, while still receiving support in maintaining their newfound sobriety.

How the Outpatient Treatment Works

How the Outpatient Treatment Works

Clients who have completed the first, most intensive levels of treatment programs can find themselves in a vulnerable recovery period. The chances for relapse are higher during the first one to three months outside of clinical care. Consequently, our outpatient program can last up to six months or longer, depending on the client’s personal needs.

During the outpatient program, clients live at home and commute to our treatment center as needed throughout the week. This gives clients the flexibility to fulfill their responsibilities at home, work, or school, using their newfound coping skills while still maintaining a minimum level of support.

Outpatient treatment helps individuals explore and overcome their unique concerns and fears. This is why our counselors develop personalized treatment plans with each client.

At Foundations Wellness Center, we offer a wide range of counseling and therapies designed to heal dependencies. Our outpatient addiction treatment program includes:

Our intensive outpatient program includes:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group and family therapy
  • Behavioral therapy
  • Communication enhancement skills
  • Psychiatric care for those with co-occurring disorders
  • Medication management (if required)
  • Relapse prevention techniques

That’s why we include family therapy in our treatment program, and we encourage family members to provide accountability when clients are not participating in treatment. The goal of our family therapy is mending familial relationships so that the client can lean on family members for support throughout their recovery.

We understand that addiction affects not only the individual, but also the people who surround the individual. However, we want clients and their loved ones to understand that a strong support system is critical in preventing relapse and achieving a successful recovery.

Who is Outpatient Treatment Designed for?

Foundations Wellness’s outpatient treatment program is designed for patients who are not at risk medically or psychiatrically and can participate in regular sessions.

Those who choose outpatient rehab as their ideal treatment choice are individuals in early recovery from mild to moderate addictions or those who have established a firm footing in sobriety and are ready to take the step to minimal clinical treatment support. An outpatient treatment may provide enough support for those who do not require acute care to recover.

Being the most autonomous form of care, the outpatient program is also ideal for those who have completed more intensive levels of care, are in good health, and who maintain a successful life outside of treatment. Some of the benefits for choosing an outpatient rehab include:

  • Affordability – As this level of treatment is the least intensive available,  outpatient program costs are lower compared to our partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs. For those who need financial flexibility, outpatient rehab is the most affordable option.
  • Flexibility – Our outpatient program is designed to easily fit into the client’s schedule. This is very useful to those who are unable to leave their job, family, or other responsibilities for an extended period of time.
  • Family Support – We strongly encourage family involvement and support throughout our outpatient program. Loved ones can help encourage the client to stay on the path to sobriety.

However, this type of treatment is not suitable for those requiring intensive support to quit their addiction. A great degree of personal responsibility should be developed before entering the outpatient program. If an individual suffers from a severe addiction, or their home environment is unstable, we recommend starting with an inpatient or partial hospitalization program.

“So instead of my story starting at birth (which is a horrendous story in itself!), I’m going to start where my addiction really started, which was 2006 while I was working as a nurse. I had very recently gotten a divorce and had untreated mental health issues. I began using meth to self-medicate because I felt so down…
